Horspath Village Show and Family Dog Show - Saturday 31st August 2024

The Village and Dog Show this year will take place on Saturday 31st August. The Dog Show at 11am and Village Show from 1pm.

Horspath Village Show Information

Rules

The Village Show is open to the public from 1pm. Registering entries for the Village Show from 10:30am until 12pm in the Village Hall or download and print out this pdf-format entry form: Entry Form (pdf)

Full details and registration forms will be published in the next Village newsletter (August).

Classes are:

Floral

  1. Three different varieties of flowers in vase.
  2. Three stems of same variety and colour of flowers in vase.
  3. A single statement flower.
  4. A display of cut flowers.

Fruit

  1. 3 Dessert Apples.
  2. 3 Cooking Apples.
  3. 3 of another fruit (same fruit).
  4. Display of mixed fruit.

Vegetables

  1. A display of vegetables.
  2. 3 Onions.
  3. 5 Shallots.
  4. 3 French Beans.
  5. 3 Carrots.
  6. 3 Tomatoes.
  7. 3 Potatoes.
  8. Longest Runner Bean.
  9. A 'Disaster' fruit or vegetable.
  10. A member of the squash or pumpkin family.
  11. An exotic vegetable.
  12. Cabbage or Cauliflower.

Baking

  1. Victoria Sponge cake.
  2. A cake containing vegetable(s) e.g. courgette.
  3. Chocolate brownies.
  4. 6 Scones.

Preserves (judges on appearance and taste)

  1. Pot of jam or curd.
  2. Pot of chutney or pickle.

Homebrew

  1. Beer.
  2. Wine or Other (i.e. cider, sloe gin etc).

Crafts

  1. Soft craft (i.e. knitting, sewing, crochet etc).
  2. Hard craft (i.e. metal, jewellery, sculpture, carving etc).
  3. Drawing or painting.

Photography - Theme is Seasons

  1. (Digital) (Adult Section).
  2. (Digital) (Children's Section - 16 years and under).

Children's (Age groups: 4 and under, 5-7, 8-11, 12-16) (Age to be put on entry form)

  1. Lego, your own creation (not from a model).
  2. Drawing of a scene in Horspath.
  3. Mini garden on a plate.
  4. Make your favourite biscuit and tell us why?

Dog Show (11am start - 12:30 finish)

  1. Best Puppy (12 months or under).
  2. 11:10am Best Veteran (7+).
  3. 11:20am Best (single) Trick.
  4. 11:30am Young Dog Handler.
  5. 11:40am Prettiest Lady.
  6. 11:50am Handsome Man.
  7. 12:00pm Best Crossbreed.
  8. 12:10pm Best Purebreed.
  9. 12:30pm Best in Show.

Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each class. Overall prize 'best in show' given to the most points accumulated in show for Adult, Child and Dog classes.

If any organisations in the village would like to run fundraising or produce stalls etc., please get in touch. Entertainment for children would be welcome.

We are always looking for judges and helpers on the day, so please get in touch if you are interested.
