1734 |
First school established, paid for by the Revd. Robert Seeley, for the education of nine poor children. By 1759 it had ceased to function. |
1802 circa |
A private school established, and by 1815 fourteen children had daily instruction at the school. |
1825 |
Dr. Ellerton (of Magdalen) Vicar of Horsepath, bought two cottages with land in the village; one to be used as a house by the schoolmistress, and the other to provide free schooling to twelve to fifteen poor children who were to be members of the established church. The boys were taught reading, writing and catechism, and the girls sewing, knitting and marking. It seems that ten years later this school was not yet begun. |

A day school for 35 children and a Sunday school for 50. |
1856 |
Magdalen College advanced £100 towards the building of the present school. Two years later the school was built on a freehold site given by the Revd. Thomas Baker in trust to the President and scholars of Magdalen College. (Baker was not the vicar or curate at Horspath). |
1864 |
Schoolmaster's house provided for. Magdalen advanced £50. |
1873 |
School enlarged to provide for up to 100 pupils. |
1905 |
School again enlarged. |
1939 |
Evacuees from London join the school. |
1944 |
Education Act - children over 11 went to Wheatley School. |
1952 |
Parent Teacher Association formed. |
1955 |
Additional classrooms provided. School redecorated. |
1961 |
Two infants classrooms, toilets, cloakrooms & staff rooms completed. |
1965 |
Swimming pool built and opened by Mary Rand, Olympic swimmer. |
1977 |
Lower classroom first used by Horspath Playgroup. |
